The Lucerne based musicologist and television producer, Urban Frye, works as an arts journalist for a variety of Swiss newspapers including the ‘Neue Luzerner Zeitung’, the ‘Tagesanzeiger’ and, for Swiss Radio DRS. From 1999 until 2006 he was the producer and editor for the Swiss Television (Schweizer Fernsehen, SF) programme ‘Klanghotel’. He has coordinated large international projects such as ‘Young Musicians’ and ‘Young Dancers’ which were broadcast throughout Europe. In addition, he was a member of the office and Advisory Committee of the Eurovision Music Group where he was responsible for, amongst other things, the opening production of the ‘Wiener Festwochen’ in the spring of 2006.

Further, he produced an extensive live broadcast of the Montreux Jazz Festival’s 40th birthday in July 2006 for Swiss Television (SF).

In 2005, Mr. Frye hosted a 14 hour live show about the legendary Swiss national hero, William Tell.

As a producer, he has been in charge of a number of projects, such as the first ‘Fest der Künste’ (celebration of the arts) (1997), the opening of the KKL Luzern (Culture and Congress Centre, Lucerne) (1998 / 2000), the inauguration of the President of the Swiss Federal Council (2001) and the Swiss national exposition project ‘Klangturm’ (three specially constructed musical towers used by musicians to create, adapt and manipulate sounds for a public audience) (2002).

From 1999 to 2005 he was the Creative Director and Producer of the international music festival ‘Alpentöne’.

In 2005, Mr. Frye organised the highly publicised reunion of the Israeli-Palestinian band ‘White Flag’, including concert recordings, CD production and a documentary.
Also, he was the exclusive Project Manager of the European Football Championships Final Draw in Lucerne, December 1-2, 2007.

Since November 1, 2006, Mr. Frye has been the Festival Director of the Rose d’Or, the most important television festival for television entertainment. He is also responsible for the Eurovision TV Summit, Lucerne: an international conference for all EBU (European Broadcasting Union) expert groups.

Additional and upcoming mandates include the construction of the new ‘Kulturwerkplatz’ (a theatre) of the city of Lucerne to be used by symphony orchestra, theatre, music schools and diverse independent theatre group stages. Mr. Frye is also advisor to the administration of the city of St. Gallen for the planned construction of a Klanghaus (music centre with recording studios) by the renowned architect, Peter Zumthor.
