Competition
Each year, the Rose d’Or seeks to single out the year’s leading entertainment and arts programmes for their originality, quality and creative excellence. The Rose d’Or competition is open to production companies, broadcasters and distribution companies worldwide.

This year, golden roses were awarded in the following categories:

Variety:
– Comedy
– Reality
– Show

Drama:
– Sitcom
– Soap

Arts:
– Performing Arts
– Arts Documentaries

Additionally, the following Special Prizes were awarded:
– Best of 2007 Prize
– Opera Special Prize
– Honorary Rose

A total of 358 programmes were entered into the competition in 2007, marking an increase of over 60 titles from last year. The programmes were entered by 155 different companies from 32 countries and all continents. The amount of entries divide into the categories as follows: Comedy 55, Show 76, Reality 67, Sitcom 31, Soap 18, Arts Documentaries 73, and Performing Arts 38.

Each year the Preselection takes place early February, commencing the mid January entry deadline. In 2007, the jury met in Lucerne from February 8-11, 2007 to view all entries and narrow down the field.

The jury was made up of the following nine international television professionals:

François Duplat (Bel Air Media, France)
Bernhard Gleim (NDR, Germany)

Masaru Hoshiba (NHK, Japan)
Si-Kyoo Kim (KBS, Korea)
Marie Kucerova (Czech Television, Czech Republic)

Together they nominated 64 programmes to compete for the golden roses: Comedy 12, Show 9, Reality 10, Sitcom 10, Soap 7, Arts Documentaries 9 and Performing Arts 7. An additional 8 programmes were nominated for the Opera Special Prize category. Represented in this selection were programmes from 48 companies and 20 countries.

The Festival Jury were sent the nominated programmes for viewing and then met on May 5, 2007 to vote on the recipients of the sought after golden roses. These 20 international television professionals, from 20 different countries were on the jury:
