Over the past 14 years John has established a broad base of experience in the global format business and now sits on the boards of various TV and screen related companies. It was the devising of the hit game show ‘In The Dark’ that originally propelled John into entertainment television and the format business when it launched in 1996 on ITV in the UK. John subsequently travelled the world producing his format with major broadcasters in 35 countries. John now writes about the format business and speaks at conferences around the world. John works closely with FRAPA (the Format Recognition and Protection Association) is Head of programme at the EMC and a ‘godfather’ at the Berlin School of Creative leadership. John has been jury member at the major television awards such as the International Emmy Awards, the Rose d’Or and the Monte Carlo Format Awards.

David is a former Director of Programming at ITV (1997–2002), and his extensive broadcasting career has included a number of roles ranging from Executive Producer of Coronation Street, to Director of Programming at Granada TV in 1992, when he
commissioned top ITV dramas Cracker and Band of Gold. David was also previously Head of Entertainment Group for BBC Television, and Deputy Managing Director and Director of Programming at LWT. David is currently the Creative Director of independent television production company, All3 Media. In January 2007 he was appointed to the new BBC Board of Trustees.

In 1999 Larry established ShinAwiL Productions Ltd with director Simon Gibney, where he acted as Managing Director for 3 years, before merging with Screentime Australia in 2003, and forming Screentime ShinAwiL, now one of the largest independent production companies in Ireland. Most recently he has executive produced 5 series of the top rated music talent search show You’re A Star for RTE ONE. Previous credits include Charity You’re A Star, Popstars and The Irish Film & Television Awards. Larry was the Irish member of CEPI from 2003 to 2006, and is currently a member of the Broadcasting Sub-committee of SPI. He is also a jury member of the Rose d’Or Festival. Alan has recently created Alan Boyd Productions as a company to independently advise producers and broadcasters on entertainment production. He was formally President of Worldwide Entertainment at FremantleMedia. Previously, he was CEO of Thames TV where he played an integral role in the initial development of Pop Idol and oversaw its first production in the UK, and later supervised its international role out. As Controller of Entertainment at LWT, he devised and or produced over 15 different formats that became some of Britain’s best known entertainment shows, including Game for a Laugh, Surprise Surprise and Blind Date. During his extensive career, as Director of Programmes, he headed up a major ITV channel, TVS Television. He began his television career at the BBC in 1962.

Julie Bristow is Executive Director of Factual Entertainment for CBC Television, launching this division for Canada’s public broadcaster in May 2006. Julie began her work at CBC in broadcast journalism, starting as a program researcher and moving onto executive production for main network programs within CBC News and Current Affairs. As the head of Factual Entertainment, Julie is responsible for overseeing the development, production and commissioning activities in such fields as talk shows, game shows, lifestyle and reality programming, as well as the acquisition and adaptation of international formats for CBC. In her current portfolio are some of the networks most successful shows including Dragons’ Den, The Week The Women Went and the live event sports reality program: Battle of the Blades.
Julie’s work in television has garnered her numerous awards, including three Geminis. She holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago, where she was also selected as one of twelve international recipients of the William Benton Fellowship in Broadcast Journalism. She serves as an active board member for Entertainment Master Class, the Rose d’Or Festival and is a member of The International Academy of Television Arts and Science.

After working as a creative executive in the advertising and gaming industries, Dick partnered in 1999 with Joop van den Ende, creating some instant TV-successes in Holland. A year later he formed a creative team with John de Mol specializing in “global TV-formats”. In 2004, de Rijk signed - as a one man format factory - an exclusive partnership with Endemol International which resulted in numerous worldwide format successes. In 2007, three of Endemol’s top-5 format properties were created by de Rijk, including their number one blockbuster Deal or no Deal - on air in some 150 countries. Under his new alliance with ProSiebenSat.1, Dick will be based out his offices in Hilversum and focus again on strategic formats.

Christoph is an attorney with the media law firm UNVERZAGT - VON HAVE in Berlin, advising in the fields of intellectual property and entertainment law. Christoph represents a number of film and television writers, directors, producers, broadcasters and distributors. From 2002 to 2005 Christoph acted as Managing Director of FRAPA- the Format Recognition and Protection Association. Lutz is a German media historian, award-winning filmmaker and communication scientist. After his Ph.D.-graduation from the University of Münster, he worked as a journalist for several leading German newspapers. He was elected Director of the prestigious Grimme-Institute in 1989. In 1991, he founded the Cologne Conference, a “media Bauhaus” and festival for aesthetic and strategic trends in the audiovisual industry. At the same time, he has been a partner at the media consulting group HMR International which he is now heading and has taught as an associate professor for journalism at the University of Dortmund since 1999. In 2006, he established the Institute for Media and Communications Policy (IfM) in Berlin and Cologne, which conducts research on German and European media policy. Moreover, Lutz has worked as the executive director of his own production company HMR Produktion GmbH since 2001 and has thus realized several documentaries. He gained particular international attention for directing the 2005 BBC and ZDF coproduction “The Goebbels Experiment”.

Jacob has brought home several attractive foreign TV formats to Nordic TV viewers via companies behind “Sixth Sense”, “Friends Forever” and “Paradise Hotel”. Jacob became Managing Director of Zodiak Television World in 2003, and was appointed as General Manager, Nordic Region at Nordisk Film in late 2005. He is a member of the board of Danish Television International, where several production companies together with DR and TV 2 co-operate on exporting TV ideas. In addition, Jacob is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in New York and sits in the International Steering Committee of NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives).

Colman began his TV career in 1978 with the Irish national broadcaster RTE. In 1998 he arrived as Head of Entertainment at Celador Productions, producing five series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and one series of Winning Lines. As well as executive producing future series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Winning Lines, Colman continued to work on developing a range of entertainment shows for Celador Productions. From 2007 on, he has been Executive Producer at 2waytraffic international. Colman Hutchinson is an Advisory Board Member of the Entertainment Master Class.

Daniela Matei has accumulated over 18 years experience as an executive in various media industry related areas including advertising, television production, and broadcast, mastering a wide array of activities from sales, to production, development, scheduling or promotion. Since February 2010 she is the CEO Nordic, Central-Eastern Europe and the Balkans for FremantleMedia Productions, with the responsibility of leading the further growth of the company's business across the region.
Daniela started in 1992 at the advertising agency Graffiti/BBDO until 1996 when she became VP for operations and development at the media services agency Creative Media. Between 2000 and 2001, she served as the President and CEO of Creative Vision International (CVI), where she also collaborated with SBS Broadcasting as a TV consultant. From 2001 to 2007, Daniela served as Vice President in production at SBS.

Mühlemann started her professional career in 1994 at public Swiss television station and later TV3, Switzerland's first private television channel. In 2001 she was appointed General Manager MTV Central (German speaking territories) and started a long career within MTV Networks/VIACOM. In 2003 she was additionally put in charge of the so-called Emerging Markets, the growing markets in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. After MTV owner VIACOM's acquisition of VIVA Media AG in 2005 she became also responsible for VIVA Media Group's TV business. Overall, Catherine Mühlemann operated a business of six different Media Brands (MTV, VIVA, VH1, Nickelodeon, GameOne and Comedy Central) with twenty TV channels that reached more than 70 million households in 25 countries.
Today Catherine Mühlemann is an independent media entrepreneur and manager. She is a co-owner of the Andmann Media Holding GmbH, has different board seats, a.o. in Swisscom, in internet companies and the advertising industry. As a member of the “Berlin Board” she is a consultant to the Governing Mayor, especially interested in developing the cultural sector and the “creative industries” in Berlin. The Berlin “Cross of the Order of Merit” has been awarded to her in 2006.

Michel founded Distraction Formats, the first independent company to specialise in format distribution, in 1997. Widely viewed as the driving force behind the establishment of the recognised format industry. Thanks to his in-depth knowledge of the format business, he is considered as “The Father of Formats”. Michel is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and is a regular attendee at the major international television markets, as well as being a regular conference speaker and founder member of FRAPA. Michel is an Advisory Board Member of the Entertainment Master Class.

Stefano began his career as a freelance producer and director for various television programmes. In 1991 he went on to found Ette Produzione, a company specialising in external consulting and the creation and adaptation of TV formats, and produced over 1000 programmes from 1993 to ’97. In 1998 Stefano was appointed Programmes and International Area Director at Europroducciones TV. During his time at Europroducciones TV Stefano has supervised the start up and expansion of three affiliates in Poland, Italy and Portugal, created several new formats in the Spanish TV Markets and contributed significantly to the development of the company’s programmes field. Stefano became Senior General Manager in 2007.
