Daniel Gorjão was born in Minde, Portugal.
He studied Dramatic Arts at Centro de Estudos de Fátima and attended the Acting Course at Universidade Moderna and at Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.
In 2003 he starts to work as a performer for Teatro Politeama Company where he’s directed by Filipe La Féria until 2009.
In 2010, Daniel creates Rosa74 where he starts to work as a director in the play ‘um dia dancei SÓ dancei um dia’ that won the award ‘Emergentes TNDMII / Festival de Almada’ (New Creators / New languages in theatre ).
After that, he directed Almada Negreiros’ play ‘Intervenção: Antes de Começar’ (as part of the project One Night Stand ), the performance ‘não te concedi a ti, natureza, a decisão deste dia’ ( Teatro Turim, Festival Inund’art – Girona ) and he was an assistant director for Ana Luísa Guimarães in ‘Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ at the National Theatre ( TNDMII ).
In 2012 he becomes the director of the new structure Teatro do Vão.
He directs ‘Sempre Noiva’ (Teatro de Almada / Teatro Taborda / Festival Tudanças Barcelona) and co-creates ‘uma solidão igual à minha’ with Maria João Luís (Encontros do Devir – Capa / Faro ).
In 2013, he co-directs ‘ Ninguém se ouve Ninguém se vê’ with Maria João Luís. In the same year he directs ‘Que o dia te seja limpo’ presented at Festival Materiais Diversos and ‘Fragmento’ co-produced by SillySeason.
In 2014, Daniel creates and performs in ‘Beco da saudade’; he also directs ‘O olhar inabitado das manhãs’ at MUHNAC and ‘Radiografia de um nevoeiro imperturbável’ at the National Theatre (TNDMII).
‘Radiografia de um nevoeiro imperturbável’ is nominated for the Time Out Lisbon Awards.
In the same year, he works as a Movement coach for the plays ‘Duas Pessoas’ and ‘A Menina do Mar’, both directed by Maria João Luís.
He’s nominated for ‘Prémios Novos’ (as a new Thetare Creator ) – Fundação Gulbenkian.
In 2015, he directed ‘Desta carne lassa do mundo’ that opens at Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência.
In 2017, he directs ‘Julia’ for São Luiz Teatro Municipal and ‘Ama como a estrada começa’ for GTIST that won the prize ‘ Cidade de Lisboa’ at Fatal Festival.
On TV, Daniel Gorjão is a dubbing director since 2011.
He was a coach for the TV shows ‘Quem fala assim’ (ARTV / RTP2), ‘Fala-me também do fado’ and ‘Praias Olímpicas’. He was an art director for ‘Zig Zag Ensaio de Natal’.
He worked as an acting coach for the shows ‘ A república das perguntas’, ‘Histórias para sempre’ e ‘Poesia na ordem do dia’.
He created and directed ‘Perfeito Círculo Presente’, ‘Trapos e conversas frívolas’, ‘Notas para a alegria’, ‘Até hoje sempre futuro’.
He was also the responsible for the Portuguese application to the New European Song Book (EBU).
Since 2016, he’s an advisor for Performing Arts at RTP2.
